Eleven years after joining to the European Union and a year after adopting the Euro as their currency, on 1st January Latvia assume the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union.
We are excited to share with you this stunning video about the Inauguration ceremony of the Latvian EU Presidency decorations at the Justus Lipsius building in Brussels.
We love the tradition that Latvians have of dance and keep it alive wherever they go!
"For the first six months of 2015 Latvia will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The Presidency is an opportunity to contribute not only to the political agenda, but also to inspire the European public by offering a wide and outstanding cultural programme.
One of the stories we are going to reveal to the wider public is the
dance tradition in Latvia. We even made a real-life dance floor in the
headquarters of the EU Council, so that people can try dancing the
Latvian folk dance „Springuleits”. As to not make anyone feel left out,
we also made this dance simulator! The beauty of dance is that it
enables us to feel united and cohesive. So, can you keep up with us
Latvians?" If you like Latvia, Latvia likes you
I love traditional Latvian dances!
